First Darmstadt Student Conference on Green Building Design

To promote teaching and international exchange, the Institute for Constructive Design and Building Construction (KGBauko Institute) is organizing the first international compact symposium for students on the topic of “Green Building Design” in the summer semester of 2023.
Within the framework of the symposium, essential results from the course “Green Building Design II”, instructed by Prof. Stefan Schäfer and M.Sc. Le Thi Kieu, will be conveyed and future trends will be considered. Of central importance is also the discussion of the participants among themselves as well as the mutual exchange of knowledge in general.
The motivation for the symposium is rooted in the heterogeneity of the course's student body, which includes a variety of academic backgrounds as well as an exceptionally high proportion of international students. We do not want to let this potential go unused. We expect a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary discussion that benefits from the multitude of different perspectives and therefore hope for your numerous attendance!
Course of events and topics:
The participants of the module “Green Building Design II” will present their results in short presentations. In three parallel sessions, ten topics will be presented successively, followed by a concluding discussion. Among others, presentations on the following areas are planned:
- Sustainable urban planning
- Urban energy management
- Novel possibilities for energy conversion and storage in an urban context
- Modern timber construction
- Innovative facades and roof constructions
- Energetic building refurbishment
- Waste prevention strategies in the building sector
- Possibilities for the reduction of grey energy and material-related CO2 emissions.
Due to the broad range of topics, participation is explicitly not reserved for students of “Green Building Design II”, but all who are interested in sustainable and energy efficient buildings are welcome.
The symposium will be held in English.
