Fire Protection in Multi-Story Building

The part of the steel structures with multi-story buildings is small in Germany compared with the European foreign countries, Asia and North America. On the one hand, this is due to prejudices concerning the cost structure of high buildings, on the other hand it is due to the rigid German standardization for the fulfillment of structural fire protection. Up to now, the high requirements of structural fire protection on steel construction parts defined in the country building regulations of the federal states could only be met by using sheaths, chamber concrete or additional coatings. An engineering differentiation of different components and different use-related fire loads of a building was only possible with high expenditure involved. Since office buildings are relatively rarely built in steel and steel compound designs, only few planners have actual experience with regard to the realization costs, so that prejudices on supposedly high fire protection costs persist.
